Washer Woes with a Moral

-I noticed that my washer doesn't agitate today. It does...kinda. If you push on the white thingy really hard with your forearm, it'll turn. But if you leave it alone, it just kinda shakes but not even hard enough to move the clothes around. I can't help but wonder how long it's NOT been 'cleaning' our clothes???

-Thank you Dave for teaching me to {save} but now, NOTHING can pick away at our emergency fund. Even the washer that will no longer agitate. Who needs clean clothes anyway? I prefer that cash to be left alone thankyouverymuch.

-But evidently JD needs clean clothes, which is why he recommended the following solution "Just go buy a new set. Why are we still messing around with this POS?" (when it comes to JD you get it like it is, k?).

-So I googled...and price checked...and made an informed slash 'green' decision...and handed him Costco's price for a full capacity dual set- $1500, cause like Dave says, if you're gonna do it then buy something that will LAST.

-The light left JD's eyes and he jumped on the computer. Turns out, you can google "what's wrong with my 1940's washer" and a handy little video will pop up explaining how to take it apart.

-2 seconds later, our washer is tore apart (with non-agitated clothes still in it, I might add) and JD quickly presents me with a nasty collection of broken bolt looking parts. The 90 cent part we need is called a clutch. Who knew?

- But if you want to do laundry for a family of five between now and the 8-10 week delivery time frame, you have to pay "extra" for next day air cause even THAT'S cheaper than the quarter machines. The grand total was a bit more...but a whole lot LESS than $1500.

-So in my mind, we saved about $1400 today, which is why I was completely and totally justified to buy new running shoes....

and THAT, folks, is what Dave calls 'immaturity'.

moral of the story: A penny not spent is not the same as a penny earned. *sigh*

It's {personal}

Funny title for a public blog, eh?

I feel bad. Guilty really. A tad disappointed too. When I posted the Easter 'teaser' I didn't realize how HARD it would be to put into words after it was all over. But mostly, I didn't realize how incredibly {personal} Easter was for me this year.

I am so humbled that Christ died on a cross for me. For you. For my little boys - the boys whose eternal salvation rests in my ability to introduce them to the God of the universe. I didn't want Easter to be bunny-centered. I didn't want my kids to 'want' anything on this day except an insatiable desire for salvation cultivated by a personal relationship with the One who loves best.

Pressure, much?

I found the words that my heart seemed to breathe. The words I wanted to share with my family...I felt giddy even...excited to 'teach' my family what Easter means to {me}.

There I stood. Eyes on me. And it was in that moment when I realized it was very, very {personal}. Those words that I found - the ones that my heart breathed - God already heard them from my lips. And so while I was saying them aloud in an attempt to make them more meaningful for Him, the holy spirit touched me deeply.

It was embarrassing. I'm not going to lie. It was.

I had this idea in my head and it just didn't play out the same. I'm an emotional person and there I was - balling all over our Easter dinner. There I was - barely able to get out the message that I wanted Him to hear...that I wanted to 'teach' my boys...that I wanted to my family to know. There I was...naked. exposed. transparent. Naked before Christ. Exposed before Christ. Transparent before our King.

Easter is a HUGE deal and as much as I wanted to fold my paper in half, slip it on my lap, and utter "never mind", I just couldn't. The message...and meaning of Easter is far too great for me to confuse it with my comfort. I pressed forward - got the word out by trust me, it wasn't as graceful as I had hoped for. Who even knows if a single word was understood...

It's funny how 'holidays' change when a person becomes a parent. I'm working on the message that will evolve into memory for my boys. I'm working on the Easter take-away and this year was step one.

I want my kids to know that Christ's love is sweeter than chocolate (even if I had to fight through tears to tell them).

I want them to know that the REAL treasure in their Easter basket is eternal salvation.

{Easter}

I have BIG plans for Easter.

We are hosting this year and it's the first time we've ever hosted anything important. And I have BIG plans. BIG ones. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. This is a BIG deal.

We bought prime rib and I've never, in my life, cooked a prime rib. I'm going to make Pioneer Woman's Rosemary potatoes, Jane's cabbage salad, and JD is making his famous homemade rolls. We are going to pull out our nice dishes (all purchased at yard sales, of course) and I'm going to do up the table all purrrrty.

But that's not the EXCITING part. That's not the important part or even the FUN part.

I have BIG plans.

BIG ones.

I read this blog that I love by Anne Voskomp. I love her. I want to be her. Her faith amazes me and I figure if I follow her long enough, some of her amazingness will rub off on me. She posted some great Easter ideas on her blog and I.am.so.excited.to.try.them!!!!

When everyone sits down for dinner, I have a little devotional to read...and I'll take pictures and post how it all turns out...but for right now, did I mention how EXCITED I am???

Easter changed everything people. Everything. Christ has risen!!!!

Girls Just Wanna Have {FUN}

Turning 30 is different.

That front number changed...and this birthday was a milestone.

I've tried to shake things up a bit and make them really special at our house with homemade cakes and parties but one thing was always predictable though, and that was this chocolate sheet cake. Funny how a person's childhood memories create adult cravings.

JD wanted to make this day really special for me so he contacted my girls and put together a day at the spa. Well, he actually contacted one of my good friends, Candy and she put everything together but JD still gets some pretty weighted credit! Ha. I wasn't sure what to expect...and I didn't want to do anything that was too far away from home...and it's hard when you're nursing an infant...and it's tough to pry an infant from your arms...and...and...and JD just wouldn't take 'not this year' for an answer. I'm so glad he didn't :)

I've never had a facial. And I've only had one other massage. I wasn't sure what to expect but afterward, I COULD NOT STOP SMILING. It was the BEST experience ever - a birthday that will go down in the hall of best.ever!!! This is a pic right after the stone massage while I was waiting for my facial in the 'sanctuary':

After the massage, I went 'chowder' as JD calls it. I couldn't speak. It was like those heated stones sucked all the intelligence right out of my brain! When the facial started, the lady asked me how I would describe my skin and I said..."olive?" What an IDIOT! She wanted to know if it was oily...dry...combo...not the dang color! Needless to say, I made quite an impression with her! Hahaha.

Here's my crew after everyone had their pampering...

And here's my several - liner intros from left to right followed by silly lessons:

Yellow left- That's Crystal. We were choir singin' buddies in high school and played volleyball together like no one else! She was the maid of honor at my wedding and even sang acapella in front of a church full of people. In case you're wondering why she's so cute all the time, she was just born that way. She was also my non-alchi beverage buddy cause she's preggo (and I'm nursing). Crystal taught me: how to give yourself a REAL pedicure.
---

Black back- That's Candy. She used to live across the street from me. We met in the street...and have enjoyed many-a-margarita with her vita 5200. She's a kindred spirit and welcomes me at her door step without much notice ;) Candy taught me: When the going gets tough, the tough gets a margarita. (Candy is not an alcoholic!)
---

Black back right- That's Charlene. We met in first grade. She and I played 'school' in her playroom and perfected a dance routine to Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" by second grade. She blames me for her smoking habit and no pun intended but she definitely lights up a room! Charlene taught me: Girls just wanna have fun.
---

Yellow right- That's Maegan. We went to high school together but became really good friends when we were roomies during college. We both know how to take a lil paint and turn college-day crack houses into homes :) Maegan taught me: how to move 7 times in 1 year and still have friends to help you.
---
The rest of these pics speak for themselves. We went to a place called "The Village" which should have been called "Where The People Under The Stairs Hang Out". If Charlene wasn't there, we would have kept driving. We really wanted to karaoke and this was the only place in town with a machine...so in we went!~

Charlene is not flipping the camera off. I had a terrible time getting a setting to work in a dark bar. That's why all these pics were taken in art mode!!!

Thanks girls, for the best birthday a girl could ask for! I am blessed beyond measure to have friends who I can call on....count on....laugh with....love with....hurt with....and celebrate with!!!

me & {jax}

It's tough to sit in front of a camera when you're a {new} mom....but it's important :)
Sweet little Jax is doing great. He's already gaining weight (8 1/2 lbs now!) and is starting to sleep like a champ. My friend, Amy, convinced my to buy a moby wrap (it's like a baby Bjorn but way better) and I LOVE it. It holds him close and he loves to hang out in there. I keep telling JD that I must have some native blood in me because I prefer to carry my babies close to my body as opposed to in a stroller or carseat.
Ryan and Gage are super great BIG brothers too! Gage has really warmed up to Jax and hugs him allll the time. I think he watches how Ryan is with him and copies that, but I'll take whatever I can get so long as he's lovin' on his lil bro! :) It was touch and go there for a while, so it's nice to see a turn around.
Whelp, this post just turned into a little update. I feel like such a bloggin' slacker lately! I have some pics from my birthday to post...so I'll do that soon! Hope ya'll are enjoying your spring break!!!

{dad}

There's nothing quite like becoming a parent.

And there's nothing quite like becoming a parent with someone you {love}.

When you've stared an uncertain future in the face...and have had to bury a child...have endured the pain and {joy} of becoming a parent...and have grown together with someone you treasure, well...there's nothing comparable. When I think of all the things I love about JD the list is long...but right up there near the top is my love for how he fathers.

He's hands-on, to say the least.

He changes diapers. He's up with me in the middle of the night. He drives his kids to school and volunteers for field trips. He wakes up extra early and makes orders-on-request style breakfasts. He fishes and camps and hunts and shoots with his boys. He sits at the table and explains that a 'g' looks like a fish hook for the umpteenth millionth time. He reads stories with character voices and prays with his boys. He is a great {dad}.

Take, for example, this stork.

When Olivia died, I remember breaking down in the front yard because we were home...without the pink 'Welcome Home' balloons; without the gleeful announcement of her arrival. I told JD then, that {if} we ever had another child, I wanted a stork in our front yard. At the time, he promised me a giant-sized one, complete with flashing Christmas lights and a neon blinking sign that read "FINALLY". When Ryan was born, JD emerged from the garage with this beaut and we've used it ever since...

At the time, I wasn't sure that he'd ever be a {dad}.
At the time, I didn't realize how good {dad} would look on him and I am SO grateful that now I know.
